Anyone who has stood on their front porch, fumbling for their keys while buckets of water fall from their eaves and down the back of their necks, understands the most basic need for having rain gutters. But the advantages go way beyond protecting you and your guests from those inevitable downpours. From the homeowner's point of view, the most recognized benefit is protection for your home. A properly designed system will direct water away from trouble areas such as basements, walks and patios. They also keep your home clean by preventing mud and sand from splashing up on you lower siding and windows. And gutters keep your home dry, greatly extending the life of wood fascia and siding.

From the builder's point of view, gutters can solve many headaches. They protect brick work from discoloration and softening, and concrete from forming drip lines and discoloring. Gutters can also keep water out from under slabs, preventing sinking and cracking. Egress windows and foundations are protected from flooding. Fascia and siding are kept dry to thwart warping. By protecting flooring directly inside front entries and back sliders, gutters can save you a costly redo.

The next benefit, until recently, has been harder to recognize. When most people picture rain gutters, they see the old galvanized gutter with a 10-foot section halfway hanging off of the house down the street. Now, with the help of the seamless gutter machine, and the high-grade aluminum available in many designer colors, gutters can now add beauty and value to your home, as well. In addition to looking good on your house, they keep your home looking good by stopping landscape erosion and keeping moisture from paint, which means less painting. Another plus is preservation of stained wood decks, doors, and garage doors where splash-up can ruin their finish.

With all the benefits rain gutters provide, I think you'll agree that they are well worth the cost. And they will continue to save you money in repairs and maintenance for years to come.
